Gateway District Soul Care Retreat-Mini Spiritual Day Apart
On May 24, 2025 our Soul Care Retreat was held at First Church in Pembroke, NC. Our new Spiritual Growth Coordinator, Panthia Locklear was the facilitator. “Tending to the Heart: A Bible Study Series on Faith, Trauma, and COVID - 19” by Tabatha Holley was our resource for the retreat. We had 30dedicated UWFaith in attendance. Lunch, fellowship, and Christian love was served.
Matthew 11:28 NLT states: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” This Bible Study was centered around dealing with our reaction to the trauma(s) in our lives. So often we do not admit that we are hurt emotionally, overworked, overwhelmed, overextended and totally exhausted. To maintain our mental and physical health, we must stop and take a moment to admit to ourselves (super women) that we cannot do it alone. We need our faith, our family, and our community to find that inner peace. The hurt may never go away; however, we must find a healthy way to deal with it.
During our wonderful time together, we studied scripture, shared individual and group reflections, listened to traditional songs, wrote out a haiku (a Japanese poem), and practiced breathing exercises by participating in “A Prayer to Breathe” by Sarah Bessey. We ended our time together with a meal and “Soul-Filling” fellowship. I would like to say a special “Thank you” to First Church Pembroke and our awesome Spiritual Growth Coordinator, Panthia Locklear. Submitted by: Daisy Dye, Gateway District President
